I am trying to assist another vet to refresh his missing memories...He was in Phan Rang at the 589th, then on to the 73rd, then on to the 589th DT. His name is Stephen J. Vinson. He has at least 14 photos, that show him in areas and some I recognized. He has one photo with 9 other guys and I'm sure someone may recognize a lot of them. There is a pic of him standing next to a 585th truck ( B 4). He says he was supposed to be assigned to the quarry, but was not happy when told he'd be driving a dozer. He was re-assigned to be a mail driver? "Hello.... My name is Steven J. Vinson, I have no remembrance of Vietnam other than what people are feeding me and according to the Veterans Administration and the Department of the Army......I was there but not in a combat zone and on no-ones morning reports or rosters, but I did get awarded the Vietnam Service Medal. I was there March 70 - March 71.....I believe I was in B, 589th then the 73rd then the 585th......I was told that when I got to Whiskey mountain that I was shown the rock crusher and the quarry and was told that I would have to drive one of those big ole DC9 Bulldozers and I went running to the first sergeants tent and was made the Mail Clerk and ran mail back and forth....now you would think that as the mail clerk people would remember me but no one seems to be able to. This all started when I had some spots removed on my face and the doctor that treated me was a Vietnam Veteran Doctor and said he was going to turn in a claim for me to the VA and so about 8 weeks later I get this VA Letter telling me that I have to fill out all this paperwork or be denied any possible claim ever in the future for anything, so I did all my little interviews and stuff and VA visits only to be denied the PSTD (Combat Related) and any Agent Orange exposure because I was in Vietnam but can not prove I was anywhere near a combat zone or even carried a weapon. Just trying to figure out who I am and where I was in Vietnam. Thanks and appreciate any assistance, good or bad. "I dont remember too much about it, but I do remember something with the 585th and 73rd and the rock quarry........I remember how loud the crusher was and none of us used headmuffs/ear plugs at that time......I think I was the mail clerk running stuff back and forth to Phan Rang and Cam Rahn but cant remember any of it, I see the photos and know its me but can not for the world tell you what is going on or who is around me or even recognize any of the guys. attached is a copy of a note from Willie and my response to him maybe it will jar someones memory." Attached is a photo of several guys standing with me, see if you can ID any of them.......thanks again. Steven J. Vinson US Army Retired Vietnam Veteran (Never Surrender) 3670 Polo Club Blvd Lexington, KY 40509 Maybe somneone remembers him? Thanks all! Bill Barentine

Just returned home from Indianapolis and the 9th reunion. Lots of interesting things to see in the Indianapolis area. Good to see all the guys and their wife's. This trip Linda and I made was well worth the time and money we spent. We are really hoping we will be able to make the next one in Phoenix, AZ in 2015. I will strongly encourage all the 585th brothers to try their best to attend. It is well worth it... Ron Hatfield 68-69

Three items: I had been in contact with Howard G. Salsman years back. I phoned him one time and was told he was in a serious accident and had extensive brain damage. I was given a # to phone him, but, the nurse said he is incoherent. He talked a mile a minute without forming a sentence. I phoned awhile back, but was told he had died. In Nam, he went by the nickname of SALLY. Please add him to the list of deceased members. Secondly, I'm looking for SHORTY. Last was he lived in Washington. I don't remember his real name anymore. Lastly, who was the Sgt (E5) riding with FLIPPY (nickname of Gerald), when he was killed. I can't remember his name. I was driving second in convoy behind Flippy. Thanks. Got out of the hosp today and earlier spoke with Rob Henry. Best wishes to all. I will try to make Phoenix, but can't make a promise.

I add my nickname, as one buddy actually thought that was my real name, because everyone called me BUSH. Does anyone remember the name of the place we were stationed after FSB Weight-Davis? I thought it was Khaun-Doung (spelling), but the base may have gone under a different name. The village was about a mile down the road. This base was located around halfway between Nha Trang and Ban Me Thout. At the time, the company headquarters was based at Phan Rhang (spelling). Thanks.
