This web site is dedicated to the men who served in Vietnam with the 585th Engineer Company [DT] from 1966 to 1972. Their sacrifices were many, their rewards few.

In Memoriam

It is with humility and sorrow and respect that we remember our comrades who were killed and wounded in the line of duty. The 585th Association renders a solemn salute to Company Commander Captain Gregory Patrick Kernahan, Distinguished Service Cross [Posthumous], killed in action at Pleiku on 6 March 1968.

Association Mission

The three specific goals of this organization are to locate and reunite Vietnam Veterans of the 585th Engineer Company [DT], and to encourage camaraderie between these men.

The Twelfth Reunion of the 585th Engineer Company (Vietnam) Association will be held at the Grand Gateway Hotel, 1721 N. LaCrosse St., Rapid City, SD 57701. The dates are Friday, September 21 through Monday, September 24, 2018. Association members are responsible for booking their own rooms. Reservations may be made by calling (605) 342-1300. Be sure to indicate that you are with the 585th Engineer Company Association to get the special rates listed below, which include a Great Plates Special breakfast ($4-5) at the adjacent Perkins Restaurant. To register for the reunion please send your check for $40/person to "Gerald Kinyon" at 3508 Heathcliff Ct., Westfield, Indiana 46074. Indicate in the bottom left of your check a "F" for fish, "C" for chicken and "B" for beef for each banquet meal included in your registration.

Combat Action Badge

The Combat Action Badge was created in 2005 to address the changing face of warfare our troops were encountering. Prior to that time, only infantry men were awarded a combat badge for engaging in actual combat with an enemy. For many years, tankers and artillery men lobbied for similar badges to denote their combat experience.

Rest in Peace Tom Garney

Tom Garney passed away on April 12, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona. He will be greatly missed by all. His diligent work at locating members that had served with the unit was a huge undertaking on which he spent an enormous amount of time. He was the focal point for updates to the website and the keeper of reunion records and photos. He was very active in VFW Post 9399 and considered the 585th and VFW his extended family.
